The GRR has partners who provide these services so please do note their contact details. The GRR office won’t be able to help you with these enquiries.

Camping

The Great River Race has partnered with the 14th Richmond Scout Boating Centre since 1994 to provide camping facilities for crews taking part in the race. The campsite is a few minutes’ walk from the finish of the race at Ham, Richmond with space for up to 350 tents and 25 Caravans, Campervans or Vans. Car parking is available on Riverside Drive next to the site. There are three shower blocks with toilets. 

Breakfast is available on the Saturday and Sunday mornings with a hog roast and bar open on the Friday evening. There are catering facilities available at the race Finish on the Saturday evening.

The campsite opens on Thursday at 17.30 and closes at 13.00 on the Sunday.

Hotel accommodation

Accommodation at the GRR rate is available for the Friday and Saturday night of the race weekend. There are eight hotels on offer

and the rate quoted is per night unless otherwise stated:

The Rose of York, Richmond

 The Rose of York is a pub with comfortable en-suite bedrooms which is located at the foot of Richmond Hill overlooking the River Thames and meadows. Richmond town centre is a pleasant 10 minute walk alongside the river. 

Parking is available and all ensuite rooms have tea and coffee making facilities. Free wi-fi is also available but note that the rooms don’t have TVs. Breakfast is available locally.

These room rates are the total for 4 night stays, 9th – 13th September

The Selwyn, Richmond

 The Selwyn is a boutique hotel situated in a wisteria draped town house in Richmond, ideally located to explore the neighbouring shops and cobbled alleys. There are a number of restaurants close to the hotel. The fifty well-appointed bedrooms offer wi-fi and TVs. Some parking is available locally.

The room rate per night includes breakfast and are available for a minimum stay of 2 nights, 11th – 13th September.

Travelodge, Teddington

A simpler hotel offering good value. The prices quoted are for room only and are sold as two nights stay only. There is a café bar but unlikely that breakfast would be available before the race start on the Saturday. There are several cafes and restaurants in the nearby Teddington High Street. The Travelodge has very limited parking which can’t be booked in advance. You will have to leave your car in nearby car parks if you can’t get into the hotel spaces.

Travelodge, Twickenham

Enjoy your stay at the Travelodge Twickenham Hotel, a well located hotel offering excellent vale accommodation within easy reach of the River Thames and Great River Race venues.

Limited chargeable parking is available 5 minutes walk away at the Arragon Road car park.

The Petersham Hotel

The luxurious four star Petersham Hotel first opened its doors in 1866 and looks out across Petersham Meadows to the bend in the river Thames below.

The restaurant offers a view of the river from every table and each of the 61 rooms and suites are traditional in style in keeping with its Victorian history. All reservations include high speed Wi-Fi and car parking.

Alexander Pope Hotel

An iconic family friendly hotel boasting 32 boutique bedrooms, set on the banks of the River Thamesand within walking distance of Twickenham/Teddington.  

Ideally located near to Strawberry Hill Train Station, you be in Central London or Heathrow Airport within 30 minutes. There is free carparking

Transfer bus to race start

There will be Transfer buses on the morning of the race picking up from:

  • Thames Young Mariners Campsite
  • Lensbury Hotel
  • Travelodge, Teddington
  • Alexander Pope Hotel, Twickenham
  • Shandon Hotel, Richmond
  • The Petersham Hotel, Richmond Central

The departure time will be posted at your accommodation on the Friday evening. Please be there in good time.

Supporters boat

Travel the GRR course in the Connaught, a traditional river Thames passenger boat built in 1976. The vessel has been regularly updated to meet modern safety and comfort standards but retains its original style.

There is also a large open top deck, excellent for viewing, and the saloon has a fully licensed bar serving simple snacks. There are toilet facilities on board.

The Cockney Sparrow sets off for the finish at Ham as soon as the last boat has crossed the Start line at Millwall.
