If you have a larger boat that cannot be towed from Ham to the Start at Millwall you can crane in at South Dock Marina which is on the other side of the river from Millwall. Your boat will be craned into the marina on the Thursday before the race. All GRR competitors will be craned in at a time advised by the South Dock Marina Harbour Master.Â
Access to the Thames is via a lock which only opens for 2 hours either side of high tide. You will have to leave the marina on the Friday afternoon before the race when high tide is usually about 3pm. Again, check with the South Dock Marina Harbour Master who will give you a time for locking out on the Friday.
Boats are then rowed across to an overnight mooring point at Millwall which will be advised by the GRR. This will mean tying up to the pontoon as directed. When the tide drops the pontoon and your boat will be resting on the beach and you must wait with your boat to check its resting position, i.e. your boat must be able to ‘take the ground’ on the beach. You can take public transport back to South Dock.
The cost of the craning in at South Dock Marina is £50 and you will be sent a Paypal invoice by the GRR for this. Complete the form below.
You should drive your boat trailer to the carpark at Ham on the Thursday. This is free with overnight security and in position for you to be craned out at Ham after the race. The charge for this Crane Out is £25. Craning Out Form (Ham)
